Rates
for Headshots:
I
like to spend at least 3 to 4 hours per client. Sometimes it only
takes 1 hour... sometimes 4. It depends on what your needs are.
Most times, I will dedicate a half day or more to take your
shots. Reason being is that we need time to get relaxed poses
that capture you as a person.
We
will select a setting based on backgrounds, skin tones and lighting
(shade and clouds are good). We can select a location when we book.
Travel to locations is possible but may involve a travel fee.
Proofs,
retouching and reproductions are not included. See our page here.
PLEASE
ask your agent what they want!!! It will save us both a lot of time
and money. Please feel free to have your agent call me if they want to
discuss your specific needs.
When do we
shoot?
All photo
shoots are done on Saturdays and Sundays only. Why? This alleviates
any cause for cancellation. All working actors know by Thursday whether
they have an audition or are working on Saturday or Sunday. All confirmation of appointments are
done on Thursday.

deleting many to give you the best choice for your needs.

scouts. I will be able to upload 12 images of your choice for
30 days. Each additional month is $15.00.

10 Things to
Know About Headshots & Modeling Photography
1. 90% of
A Great Photograph is Up to YOU. Ever wonder why top models are paid
so much? It's because they are worth it - they are easy to photograph
and they are consistent. They spend hours studying poses (so they
don't look like a pose) and even more time in front of a mirror
practicing. Like any professional, they prepare. You must prepare to
get a great headshot. Get sleep. Ask questions. Most importantly,
spend time in front of a mirror practicing your look. This is not
about vanity - it's about self-perception. Look into the mirror at
least 1 hour a day everyday for a week before the shoot.
2. Get
a photographer that MAKES not takes pictures. Camera Operation
is only 10% of a Photographer's job. Select a photographer who is
skilled in the darkroom. Although most photographers contract out
their lab work and printing, there are always situations that require
the photographer to go into the darkroom and work the negative and/or
print. Most importantly, photographers that have a strong command of
photographic chemistry have a better command over the camera.
3.
Determine what you want your photographs to do for you. Want to do a
TV commercial? Or maybe get steady work as a character actor? Want to
be a movie star? First step is to know who you are and what you want
to convey in your headshot. It's possible that a good shot will be
good for theatrical and commercial work. But you will probably need
more than one look.
4.
Select a Photographer Who Makes You Look UNIQUE. Talk to your
photographer about how they work. Changing locations, working
"freestyle" and taking risks is best way to get a unique
headshot. A good photographer will try to get to know you as a person
and match the shot to your personality.
5. Take care
of your body, mind and soul. "The camera never blinks." We
will see it all, so you take care of yourself - and be yourself. There
is a market for every imaginable look. Trying to be perfect will not
work - it does not exist. It is much better to take good care of
yourself. The payoff will be the relaxed look you give the camera.
6.
Bring samples of other photographs to the shoot. Bring your old
headshot and examples of headshots that you like to the shoot. There
are thousands of headshots available on the Internet. Showing a shot
to your photographer will help him or her get a feel for what you
want. Do not insult the photographer by asking them to duplicate the
shot - they will be able to see what elements of the shot you like and
how to incorporate that into your headshot.
7. Look
at the Photographer's portfolio. Never hire a photographer without
looking at his or her work.
8. Go
for Industry Experience and Contacts. Hire a photographer who
works with other actors, producers, models and agents. Everybody knows
everyone so you never know if it will help you or not. Warning: Do not
think a photographer can make your career and be cautious of people
who make promises that are "just too good to be true."
Contrary to popular belief, no photographer can get you an agent. This
is a lie told too often to young models. Also, be careful of the
agency that wants you to spend money on "their
photographer." It is always best to follow your gut feel and hire
an independent photographer that works for YOU.
9. Help
the Photographer learn who you are. Bring your favorite music,
your acting reel, or a monologue. The photographer will use this
information to set a mood in your shots... and your shots will be more
specific to your personality.
10.
Procrastination kills. Get the photos done NOW. It will take
between 3 and 6 weeks for you to get a headshot and reproductions
made. Delays happen. Rushing it can cost you a small fortune. It is
best to just keep on a regular annual schedule. Get new photos every
year OR whenever your look changes. The worst thing you can do is show
up without a headshot (the worst I have seen is an actor who sent a
Xerox copy to the casting director for a TV commercial). The second
worst thing you can do (and I speak from personal embarrassing
experience) is to show up to an audition with a headshot that does not
look like you.

General
Preparation Notes
Here are a
few notes to help you prepare. I want you to be proud of your
photographs - and getting a great shot is a team effort. As a
photographer, filmmaker and actor, I know that photography is only 10%
of a great headshot. The rest is up to our preparation and "good
vibes." Please consider the following:
Love yourself
as you are. Don't worry about your weight. Get lots of sleep for a
week. Do not party the night before. Drink lots of water - at least a
gallon a day for three days before the shoot (it will make you look
more alive and make those dark circles disappear). Practice your look
(especially smiling) in the mirror at least 30 times a day in of the
mirror every day for a week. Avoid excessive exposure to the sun - a
suntan won't help in a black & white photo. Take out any piercings
(that show - especially ear and nose rings). Arrive early and be
prepared to spend time just hanging around - we want your pictures to
be as relaxed as possible. Bring a joke, a smile or a story. This will
be fun.
Wardrobe:
Simple is almost always better.
Colors -
bring at least one black, one gray and one white top. Bring pants that
fit well. I strongly suggest that men bring a suit or a coat and tie.
Women should bring a dress (or something that shows personality).
Materials - Bring textured but not patterned clothes. Leather, satin,
and wool look great. Cotton looks good until it gets wrinkled. Layered
cloths work well. Tank tops and halters can also be interesting.
Patterns look terrible - so do NOT bring any stripes, paisleys,
checkers, herringbones, etc.
Make-up &
Hair: Good make-up, like good acting, is invisible.
If you need a
haircut, get one a week before we shoot the photos. We want the photos
to look like you normally do when you audition - not like you just got
out of a hair salon. Remove unruly and random hairs on the face, nose
and ears. Men shave. Women wax if you need to. A facial helps but get
it at least one week before the shoot - we want the skin to have time
to recover before our session.
I do not have
anyone on staff to do make-up. This is your responsibility.
