Grays
Harbor Raceway Park
Elma, Washington:
Tucked
in the mountains west of Olympia, Washington, ˝ mile east of Elma,
lays Grays Harbor Raceway Park.
Grays Harbor Raceway Park began its racing history in 1955.
Reconstruction on the facility brought it to its present form in
1981.
The
3/10 mile high banked clay oval is 65-75 ft. wide with the pits
located outside of turns 3 and 4. They are graveled and lighted with
food concessions available. Safety features include fully equipped
and staffed ambulances and fire crews and tow vehicles.
I
wanted to spend most time at this 3/10-mile high-banked oval clay
track. My first visit
was on the 4th of July weekend for their mid-season
championship. On a
beautiful night of racing, 360 Sprint Cars showed up to compete for
the 35 lap A Main starting position.
This is one of the two best
tracks in Washington I visited and the closest dirt track to the
Tacoma area where I was staying. This track is set up so that the fans can have a birds eye
view of the racing program.
The grandstands are set back from the track, but are elevated
on a hill to give the viewer a better show.
Grays Harbor Raceway Park seats 2,750 with 4,000 additional
seats for special events. A
1700 vehicle parking area is provided with RV sites available for
camping.
There
is plenty of room in the pits to accommodate a full night of racing
with large haulers. They
continue to implement improvements on the track that only make it
better. The track
dimension give this facility a 3/10 mile high banked clay oval that
is 65-75 ft. wide with the pits located outside of turns 3 and 4.
The pits are graveled and well lighted with plenty of food
concessions available. Safety features include fully equipped and
staffed ambulances and fire crews and lots of tow vehicles.
Grays
Harbor plays host to a weekly racing that includes 360’s,
modifieds, hobby stocks, and cruisers.
Other special events include the Northwest Modified
Nationals, Washington Sprint 100’s, several NST races and a 3-day
NST/World of Outlaws Wild Wild Northwest Tour show know as “the
biggie”. This track
attracts drivers from all over Washington, Oregon, California and
Canada.
I
had a great time at this track.
The staff and management are truly first class. This track is a definite stop for the open
wheel racer and fan. The action is fast and the racing is clean. I
highly recommend this track. You can get more information at http://brownfieldent.com/GHRP/GHRP_home.htm
