Cottage
Grove, Oregon:
(Part 2 of 6)
Just off
Interstate 5 in Cottage Grove, Oregon sits Cottage Grove Speedway .
This 1/4 mile red clay dirt track sits in a hard to find open cove
of trees. In order to actually find this track, I had to sit at the
gas station and wait for a car and trailer to come by so I could
follow it in. If you were not from that area, it would be hard for
you to find it. There is a one-lane dirt road leading into this back
wood track. But once inside, you find one of Oregon’s nicest
tracks. On the night I arrived they ran several classes including
Sportsman Sprints, Modifieds, and Sportsman all of
which put on a very good show.
For a
lot years both racers and fans have become used to racing at
what was once "Riverside Speedway." This year brings
new owners to the speedway along with a new name. With that will
comes many new additions to the track and speedway. Work has
already begun on rebuilding many different areas of the facility.
The center section of the main grandstands has been completely
overhauled to support 12 additional skyboxes. Improvements
planned also include handicap access to the grandstands area being
put into place. To help better announce races a new Public
Address system has been installed as well as a new and improved
press box. Facilities
at the track are great. They have made several improvements over the
past year and the track seems to be getting better and better.
Special
shows include throughout the year, World of Outlaws, NST Mini
Sprints, Northern Sprint Tour, Monster Trucks, and Karts.
